Suprasorb X

Suprasorb X is an intelligent wound dressing which is able to absorb and release moisture, at the same time providing the HydroBalance effect.

suprasorb x diagram

The HydroBalance effect of Suprasorb X allows the dressing to adapt to the needs of the wound. The diagram illustrates how the dryer wound margins will receive moisture from the dressing to hydrate the skin and provide a moist wound environment; whilst at the dressing’s centre excess exudate is absorbed and locked into the dressing.

Depending on what the wound requires Suprasorb X will release moisture into the wound, or Suprasorb X will absorb excess exudate from light to medium exuding wounds or will do both simultaneously (perfect for mixed wounds)

Surprasorb X reduces wound pain during treatment, has a cooling effect and soothes the skin surrounding the wound. It is particularly soft and supple, making it conform well to awkward areas to dress.

The graph shows that less than half of the patients treated with Suprasorb X complained about severe to moderate pain, compared to the group who received standard treatment. Suprasorb X is made from biosynthetic cellulose fibres

suprasorb x Product Description

SuprasorbX sheet and rope are hydrobalance wound dressings consisting of cellulose, water and 0.085% chlorohexidine gluconate (preservative).

Depending on the wound condition, Suprasorb X sheet or rope can either provide the wound with moisture, absorb excess exudate or, depending on the wound, do both simultaneously This creates a moist wound environment.

Dressing change is atraumatic; the material can be adjusted to the wound shape and depth, making Suprasorb X suitable for difficult to dress areas of the body. There is no adhesion to the wound or to the secondary dressing. The cooling effect of the dressing is perceived as pleasant and may reduce pain.

Suprasorb X always requires a secondary dressing (such as Suprasorb F (Film) or Suprasorb P (Foam)

Instructions for Usesuprasorb x instructions

Suprasorb X is not haemostatic so bleeding has to have stopped prior to application

1. Wound Preparation:

  • Thoroughly cleanse the wound. The surrounding skin should be clean and dry.

2. Application of the Wound Dressing:

  • The size of the dressing depends on the wound size. The dressing should overlap the wound by 2-3cm.
  • Open the sterile pouch and remove the dressing. Remove the protective film from both sides. Either side of the dressing may be applied to the wound.
  • If required, the dressing and the rope may be cut to size with sterile scissors.
  • Place dressing on the wound, smooth on and fix with a suitable secondary dressing eg. a foam or a film.
  • When using the rope, gently place it into the wound, layering by folding it onto itself. In cavities ensure that 2-3cm of the rope dressing is secured outside the wound for easy removal. Do not pack the material too tightly within the wound. Cover the rope with an appropriate secondary dressing.
  • Do not allow the dressing to dry out.

3. Dressing Change

  • The frequency of changing Suprasorb X sheet and rope dressing is determined by the clinician in charge, depending on the wound healing phase. The dressings may remain in situ for up to 7 days.

4. Dressing Removal:

  • Remove the secondary dressing
  • Carefully remove Suprasorb X sheet dressing by lifting one edge and gently peeling the dressing from the wound. Or carefully pull Suprasorb X rope out of the wound.
  • Cleanse the wound before applying a new dressing or rope.

Precautions

The dressing must not be allowed to dry out. If the dressing has become dry, hydrate with saline until soft enough to remove (up to 30 minutes).

Please contact a doctor or healthcare specialist if one of the following symptoms should occur:

  • signs of infection
  • change of colour and or/odour of the wound
  • stagnating wound healing
  • sensitivity to the dressings
